Mark 4:3-9 “Listen to this! Behold, the Sower went out to sow
seed, as he was sowing, some seed fell... This is
a principle of faith called sowing and is not just about sharing the Gospel or
giving money but about everything we do by faith.
Ancient sower’s
of seed prepared their field as best they could, then fixing their eye on a
distant point, they cast seed in handfuls from a bag hung on their side. They
did not look back or to the side. They were singular in their focus; just sow
the seed!
The fact that
some fell here or there is incidental; so was the resulting harvest. The sower
did not try to control the outcome of his efforts. He had no control over
anything other than sowing.
When Jesus
spoke of this principle he did not advocate targeting just the obviously
fertile patches of ground. His message was about the destination and purpose.
He takes care of the outcomes. Our job is to scatter seed.
Psalm 112:9: speaks of
what a faith person does: “He has scattered abroad his gifts to
the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn (mana - NZ or respect) will be
lifted high in honour.”
Essentially then, faith works
when we fix our eyes on the goal or purpose and not on the issues. When we
focus on the issues we are trying to control the outcome and are effectively
not trusting in the lord. Ecclesiastes
11:4: “Whoever
watches the wind will not sow seed; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.”
Continue to walk and work by faith and
let the chips fall where they may. Otherwise we are diverted by our own need to
feel in control.
