Brief Lives Need Clear Destinations

A read through the cemetery register for our graveyard is a revelation of the fragility and brevity of our lives. It is not surprising that we don’t want to think much about the inevitable. What is surprising is that we all act like we are here forever
and put off the important issues of why we are here as though we could pick up those matters at some convenient time.
All lives have purpose and none are simply random statistics. We sing songs in Church promising God we will make our lives count but somehow we don’t extend those ideas to the everyday reality. Most people have no idea what God’s calling and purpose is for their life because they are caught-up just surviving just like sheep.
Calling is found when we live out our God-given visions and dreams. To live them out we need to decide to not let our personal interests and passions pose as our calling.
Our calling is to live lives that give all the credit and glory to God. Micah 6:8 sums it all up: “He has shown you oh man what is good, and what it is that the Lord requires of you; to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” If we can simply maintain these principles we will find we have been walking in our calling and purpose.
Many people spend years searching and wondering what their purpose is on this planet. This is simply because they don’t commit to and focus on the things that lie before them. A ship that isn’t moving cannot be steered. As we progress forward diligently we stumble across our purpose and calling. Our destination is simply to fulfil. Great happiness results!
